This
is the current listing of schools, and districts, in Kansas that did
not make adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two consecutive years
and therefore now have a status called, "On School Improvement."
One of the many reasons why a school might not make adequate yearly
progress includes that test scores are reported out by sub-groups
of students – students who are economically disadvantaged (on
free and free and reduced lunches); students from different ethnicity
groups; students who are limited English proficient; and students
who are Special Education status. The No Child Left Behind legislation
also requires that 95% of the students in each sub-group at the grade
level where students are tested, must be present to take the assessment.
If less than that number is tested, then a school might not have made
AYP and therefore is put on School Improvement. If your school is
on this list, please contact your principal to learn the specifics
and what kind of plan the school is developing to make improvement.

Under No Child Left Behind legislation if a school
does not make AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) for two consecutive years
the school is put on school improvement and school choice. If AYP
is not met after three years, children can have access to supplemental
services that consist of additional academic support outside school
time such as tutoring programs – which will be paid for by the
school. The state determines who the supplemental service providers
will be. This is a list of the current providers in Kansas, as of
September, 2003. The brochure to the left of this list describes what
this process means. Contact your child's principal to see if your
child is eligible to receive these services. |
