New Federal Requirements

Under No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the latest reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act that first started under President Johnson in 1965, schools are being held accountable to meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for all students. The links on this page, Parent Choice, Supplemental Services (free tutoring), and Accountability contain links to sites that explain in further detail the specifics of this legislation and parents' options and rights to know about the quality of education at your school. A new site www.schoolresults.org, jointly sponsored by the US Department of Education and the School Information Partnership, is a good on-line resource for parents where you can learn more about how NCLB impacts your children's schools. Just click on Kansas and enter the name of your child's school -- a window will come up that gives the status of your school concerning the requirements of NCLB.
