The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation enacted in 2001 and effective January 1, 2002, presented many new challenges for educators. Some of the key requirements of the legislation mandate yearly, increased student achievement levels, and that school-based personnel communicate and work more effectively with parents. The business community can play an important role in both these areas. One of the most important factors in student achievement is parent involvement. Because school improvement is a major focus of NCLB, increasing student achievement is a top priority for school systems – however, schools cannot do it alone. Parents, teachers, schools and the business community can all help support family involvement as one strategy towards school improvement.

Because employees are parents too, business and the community can help children, schools and even your own organization by increasing employees’ opportunities to be more involved in their children’s learning. It is clearly in a company’s best interest to support employees in their roles as parents. Research shows that children do better when their parents are involved with school, and parents are happier and more productive when their children are doing well.

By supporting family involvement, you help today’s students to become tomorrow’s well-educated, highly skilled, and motivated workforce. The various links and resources on this page and throughout this website will provide you with information and family-friendly strategies that will help your employees learn more about NCLB, how they can support their children’s academic development and growth and how you can be at the forefront in supporting quality education.

We also encourage you to take our short, one page, Business Survey that will help us learn what family-friendly policies and practices are already in place. Also, click on our links for a listing of some business oriented organizations that focus on education and family.
